It is a diagnostic tool to evaluate the functional integrity of the somatosensory pathways in the lower extremeties. It reflects ascending sensory pathways.

Lower SEP is an extension of clinical neurological examination providing accurate, reproducible and objective data from the somatosensory system. With proper performance and technique, it is very sensitive and a very good diagnostic tool in the clinical evaluation of neurological diseases.

 

 

Upper SSEP are nervous system responses to electrical stimulation of the median nerve at the wrist to determine the functional integrity of the peripheral nerve pathway, upper spinal cord, brain stem and thalamocortical sensory systems.
