Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response is the electrical response of the auditory pathways (auditory nerve, brainstem and may be higher subcortical structures) to a specific sensory stimulus (acoustic stimulation). It is a short latency response, including waveforms within 10 milliseconds of an appropriate acoustic stimulus in normal subjects. The wave responses (positive upward peaks) correlate with brainstem regions. It consists of near-field and far-field potentials
